“Life is short, live it well.”

We all know in theory that life is short, but how can we truly make the most of it and “live it well” amidst the losses, changes, and other twists & turns that invariably come our way? Not to mention external expectations to be forever available and “connected” via devices, and internal hard-wiring designed for survival, not ease?

Nik & Maggie are so excited to again be offering this weekend retreat together, this time around the theme of “living life well.”  This will be the perfect opportunity to take a break from external commitments and distractions to drop below into what is truly meaningful for each of us, and how we intend to honour and support this? Living with purpose and on purpose.

WHAT'S INCLUDED WITH THE RETREAT?


The retreat will once again take place in the beautifully refurbished 1920s Continental Guesthouse, perched high in the bushland of Hepburn Springs, and just across the road from the Goldfields Walking Trail.

  • The retreat will mostly be silent, but with some times for connecting & sharing with other participants, including the Friday night meal on arrival.
  • Guidance will be provided by Nik & Maggie as we practice mindfulness in movement, yoga and stillness.
  • All food – delicious & nutritious vegetarian meals – will be prepared by a local caterer specialising in slow food. There will also be time to visit the Springs, walk in the bush, enjoy a massage, or simply rest.

The retreat will officially commence around 6pm with dinner on the Friday, but participants are invited to make the most of the opportunity to check in anytime from 2pm & enjoy a trip down to the Hepburn Bathhouse, a bushwalk or book into a massage at the Guesthouse. We will finish by 3pm Sunday.

MEET YOUR TEACHERS



 

Hi, I’m Maggie, an experienced mindfulness teacher, mental health social worker, and Couple Therapist.  

Since my first 10 day silent retreat in 1994, I have known just how powerful meditation can be, but it wasn’t until experiencing Jon Kabat Zinn’s 8-week MBSR program that I was able to truly integrate mindfulness into my personal life, and also into my counseling and other work.  I feel so privileged to share this passion for mindfulness as a way of living more fully, kindly and well.

I am super excited to join Nik in leading this retreat, as I feel inspired by her dynamic teaching style, and the compassionate, fun & practical wisdom she embodies.

I live with my lovely partner and three beautiful teenage daughters (& slobbery chocolate Lab) in Castlemaine, Victoria next door to miles of bush that I love walking in each day.

Hi! I’m Nik, a qualified MBSR facilitator and the founder of the Mindfulness Project.

I’ve spent years teaching the 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course, and have experience hosting both national & international mindfulness & yoga retreats.

I’ve worked as an Addiction Counsellor, where I taught mindfulness-based relapse prevention to people in recovery for addictive behaviours/in residential rehabilitation facilities.

I also provided general counseling in reducing stress, anxiety, and family-related issues.

I live in the Yarra Valley in Melbourne, Australia with my husband Pete and our 3 kids, Bella, Charli, and Billy.

I can’t wait to see you in Hepburn Springs!

FAQ


+ Is this a silent retreat?

Yes, this is a silent meditation retreat for those who have completed the MBSR course or who have an established mindfulness meditation practice. There will also be opportunities to connect with each other and the teachers if you wish.

+ Are yoga and sitting meditation props available?

There are chairs, bolsters and yoga mats. Please bring any specialised sitting equipment including stools if you use them. You might also like to bring your own yoga mat.
